The tenugui is a thin Japanese 100% cotton towel. It usually measures 35 by 90 centimeters and is printed by hand with traditional patterns.
It can be used for anything a towel could be used for - as a washcloth, dishcloth, but also as a headband, souvenir, decoration, or for wrapping items such as bottles.
The Kamawanu house uses a dyeing technique called "Chusen" which was invented in the Meiji period. The dyes produce different shades of color depending on the weather, temperature or humidity of the day. Each wash will soften your tenugui.
Do not wash in hot water.
